Net Zero Watch lauds GMB’s Net Zero realism

Net Zero Watch has applauded the decision by the GMB union to speak out about the insanity of the Government’s decarbonisation plans. The union’s leader Gary Smith was quoted in the Daily Mail as describing them as “bonkers”, “fundamentally dishonest” and “not rooted in the real world”.

Mr Smith also said that the energy industry faces losing a million jobs if Ed Miliband’s plans come to fruition.

Welcoming the GMB’s intervention, Net Zero Watch director Andrew Montford said:

It is high time that the trades unions found their voices. Gary Smith’s intervention is therefore very welcome and we hope he will stimulate a serious discussion about just how dangerous Mr Miliband’s plans are.

Senior Labour MP Graham Stringer said:

Gary has brought a touch of realism to the debate on our use of fossil fuels and our total energy system. We cannot be cavalier with people’s jobs and our energy security.
