There is a compelling alternative to unjust heat pump grants, GWPF tells Boris Johnson
The Global Warming Policy Forum (GWPF) has written to Boris Johnson, warning him that the latest Net Zero proposals by his green advisers will be intolerable to the public and will almost certainly fail.
In a letter to the Prime Minister, Benny Peiser, the GWPF director, warns that generous £7000 grants for heat pumps will only go to better off households while a proposed tax on natural gas would punish those households who cannot afford a costly heat pump.
In his letter, Dr Peiser points out that heat pump grants are also "needless since there is an alternative which is actually already part of the government's heating plan, namely hydrogen-ready natural gas boilers.
Households will have a proven technology compatible with their existing hot water tanks and radiators, but one that can be decarbonised in due course. In the meantime, as they wait for hydrogen, households can continue to use natural gas."
The recommendation we are putting before you today offers a realistic and flexible path towards emissions reduction in domestic heating. It is also politically deliverable."
