UK

Miliband madness…

The Secretary of State announced his action plan for Net Zero. Planning restrictions on windfarms will be swept aside. £40 billion per year of private investment will be unleashed. However, since this can only save £6 billion of gas costs, it will only increase the cost of living still further.

… and military madness

The Government said that it was going to plough ahead with plans to electrify military vehicles, thus doing little to dispel the impression that the Cabinet is staffed by lunatics.

Solar storm

The UK’s largest solar generation station was wrecked by a storm.

Power prices to keep rising

Energy system experts Cornwall Insight said that the April 2025 price cap review will see electricity prices will rise by 1-2%. This follows a 1% rise in December.

Official costings are junk - who knew?

Further evidence emerged that Whitehall cost estimates for renewables are fictional. Officials are struggling to maintain a consistent line.

Loadsa money

The Government’s subsidy database was revealed to contain £328 billion of pledges of your money to Net Zero projects.

International

The black stuff

Worldwide demand for coal in 2024 will break all records, according to OilPrice.com

Dark days

A Dunkelflaute hit western Europe. With no wind or solar generation, power prices soared, in some places exceeding even those at the height of the Ukraine war. Scandinavian countries, suffering from the fallout, started talking about cutting their interconnectors.

Etc…

It was revealed that much of the Met Office’s UK temperature data is fictional, the temperature-recording stations in question having long since closed down.

At a conference in Switzerland, GWPF’s Benny Peiser spoke of the end of the Net Zero consensus.

Reform UK’s Richard Tice described Net Zero as “the greatest voluntary act of financial lunacy ever imposed on a nation”.

A song lampooning Labour’s energy policy looks set to be the Christmas number one.

Harry Wilkinson was on Talk, discussing the Net Zero Action Plan and the dodgy numbers behind it.

More problems with Miliband’s maths

NESO recently published a report claiming that Mr Miliband’s 2030 Net Zero plans would lead to cost savings. I asked for the underlying calculations under FOI. They were released at the end of last
